Final day In Costa Rica and the final weekend in Panamá

Image
Last Thursday, we finished our community service in el Liceo by attending classes with several classes of seniors in Costa Rica (5th form).  The students enjoyed their interactions with the local people and had a good time with them.  Also, it was a day to donate everything that we brought to Costa Rica.  I would like to take this opportunity to thanks Mrs. Taylor for donating the school supplies and the backpacks. The little kids of Barroeta, Guanacaste and Estanquillos were very happy to get a backpack with a lot of school materials.  In the afternoon, we prepared to travel to Panamá, so Kendy and Belkis did their laundry in order to have clean clothes in Panamá.  In addition, they requested Belkis to cook their favorite meal, Lasaña which was delicious.  On Friday, we waked up very early to catch our flight to Panamá. Again, the boys requested Belkis' pancake style for breakfast which disappeared very quickly.  We left the house at 7:45 AM and got to the airport around 8:30 AM

We went to the Recycling Center to sort different types of materials in order to send them to the right place for recycling.  The students commented about the impact of plastic bottles, newspapers, and empty jug of milk, detergent and other products. Today was not as busy as the first time that we worked there, but it was very rewarding to hear the boys' reaction to the amount of waste we produced and the impact in the environment.  After working there, we can back to La Quinta and ate lunch.  The students had a break until 1:30 PM and had time to use their phone to communicate with their family and friends. At 1:30 PM, we had Spanish class, where they had a conversation in group of three about their experience in CASA. I was very pleased with their overall work in this activity because I was able to assess their language skills progress. In addition,  we sort the donations that we are planning to donate tomorrow to the students of the school of Barroeta. I feel that we had a produ

Tuesday 18 Community Service and trip to Las Minas' waterfalls in the afternoon

We continued our work in the cultural aspect of the trip by engaging the students in some sort of scavenger hunt in Atenas where they have to find a typical store in Costa Rica. After they found a store, they did a small oral presentation in Spanish about the store. We have done many of these types of activities in order to engage the students with local people. After this activity, we went to the Liceo where we cleaned the windows of several classrooms. The boys were very diligent in cleaning and leaving the classroom windows spotless. In the afternoon, we went to Las Minas' waterfalls, which is closed to Quinta Siempre Joven. The boys enjoyed swimming in the river and had a lot of fun jumping from a cliff. After a while, we went back to the house in order to get ready to go to the gym.  Dinner was a typical Cuban dish-Ropa Vieja, which was very delicious. After dinner, the student chill out in the house by playing ping pong and getting connected with their families and friends.

A relaxing Sunday

Yesterday, we had a laid back day. After two weeks in Costa Rican and a busy schedule, we decided to have a sleep in day and brunch. The boys really like the idea of waking up late and have brunch at 11:30 PM. After we ate, we had time to take nap for a couple hours in order to be fresh and ready to go to watch the soccer game between Nicaragua and Costa Rica.  We left at 3:00 PM and got in the mall around 4:15 PM where they completed a Spanish task of comparing and contrasting the mall in the US. and Costa Rica.  As soon as they got back from exploring the mall, we drove to Aji Limon to have dinner where we watch the soccer game. They enjoyed the food at AJi Limon as well as the soccer game. We watched the first half of the game and later drove back to Quinta Siempre Joven. The day ended at the Quinta where they played ping pong and socialized in the patio of the house. Today, We went to the Liceo to do community service. We cleaned several classrooms and the green areas of the Li
