Tuesday 18 Community Service and trip to Las Minas' waterfalls in the afternoon
We continued our work in the cultural aspect of the trip by engaging the students in some sort of scavenger hunt in Atenas where they have to find a typical store in Costa Rica. After they found a store, they did a small oral presentation in Spanish about the store. We have done many of these types of activities in order to engage the students with local people. After this activity, we went to the Liceo where we cleaned the windows of several classrooms. The boys were very diligent in cleaning and leaving the classroom windows spotless. In the afternoon, we went to Las Minas' waterfalls, which is closed to Quinta Siempre Joven. The boys enjoyed swimming in the river and had a lot of fun jumping from a cliff. After a while, we went back to the house in order to get ready to go to the gym. Dinner was a typical Cuban dish-Ropa Vieja, which was very delicious. After dinner, the student chill out in the house by playing ping pong and getting connected with their families and friends.
June 9th, white water rafting and return to the Quinta
It was a hot morning perfect for a ride down class 3 rapids with our guides. There is a standing tradition that the first person in the water will buy ice cream for the group, but we all were able to make it down the river in the boats. It was perhaps one of the most enjoyable events of our time in ?Costa Rica. We are now back at the Quinta, refreshed and ready to continue helping out at the Liceo tomorrow.
