June 15. Trip to San José, the capital of Costa Rica

Yesterday, we went to visit a typical market of a city in Latin America. We gave the students time to explore the market and see what type of things the market offered to the people of San José.  I think that they connected their experiences with the activities that we did in Spanish 1 and 2, which I feel it was a positive exposure to the rich culture of the people of Central America. After the market, we went to eat at La Furca (https://www.furca.cr/) one of the best restaurants in San José. The students enjoyed the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant. We were in the restaurant for two hours, which is very normal to spend that much time in this type of restaurant here in Costa Rica.  In the afternoon, they went to watch a movie in a Commercial Center(Mall), and after the movie we drove back to Quinta Siempre Joven.

Tuesday 18 Community Service and trip to Las Minas' waterfalls in the afternoon

We continued our work in the cultural aspect of the trip by engaging the students in some sort of scavenger hunt in Atenas where they have to find a typical store in Costa Rica. After they found a store, they did a small oral presentation in Spanish about the store. We have done many of these types of activities in order to engage the students with local people. After this activity, we went to the Liceo where we cleaned the windows of several classrooms. The boys were very diligent in cleaning and leaving the classroom windows spotless. In the afternoon, we went to Las Minas' waterfalls, which is closed to Quinta Siempre Joven. The boys enjoyed swimming in the river and had a lot of fun jumping from a cliff. After a while, we went back to the house in order to get ready to go to the gym.  Dinner was a typical Cuban dish-Ropa Vieja, which was very delicious. After dinner, the student chill out in the house by playing ping pong and getting connected with their families and friends.

Welcome to WFS CASA 2019!!!--with added pictures

It has been a busy first couple days here in Athenas, Costa Rica.  After flying in without difficulties we were picked up by Mr. Rivera and driven to our CASA casa:   https://www.google.com/maps/@9.9618985,-84.4487547,2759m/data=!3m1!1e3 It is the one named "Forever Young B&B" and is also linked to Quienta Siempre B&B a little lower on the map.  It looks out over rolling hills onto the Pacific Ocean in the distance.  The boys have availed themselves of the ping pong as well as the pool.  there is a picture of breakfast to the right: Our first day was at Jaco Beach   https://www.google.com/maps/@9.6132671,-84.6302269,4452m/data=!3m1!1e3 To wash away the worries of travel. Yesterday we visited the High School in town where we will be doing part of our volunteer and I discovered that perhaps youth is wasted on the young.  The boys made a big splash with the students, but our boys were perhaps a little gun shy and stayed amongst themselves.  Mr. Rivera and I will
